Since July 2009: Professor at the Department of Physics of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.

Past positions

Jan - Jul 09: Post-doctoral fellow at the Instituto de Astronomia, Geofísica e Ciências Atmosféricas (IAG) of the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Brazil, working on the evolution of physical properties of galaxies. Financial support: Fapesp.

Dec 07 - Dec 08: Post-doctoral fellow of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) working at the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille (LAM).

Oct 06 - Dec 07: Visiting researcher at the Institut d'Estudis Espacials de Catalunya (IEEC) in Barcelona, thanks to an Alfa-LENAC fellowship.

Past work

I've finished my PhD at the IAG/USP on April, 2006. The subject of my thesis was the study of spectral properties and stellar populations of galaxies and the role played by environment in driving the build up of the two distinct galaxy populations seen in the local universe. The data were obtained from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) database, which represents the most impressive galaxy survey already done.

Our group has been a pioneer in Brazil with respect to the analysis of huge data sets, starting with my MSc dissertation based on the investigation of the environmental dependence of star-formation in galaxies through an analysis of the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS) spectroscopic data.
